Tooth loss can get in the way of some of life’s most enjoyable activities. From smiling to speaking and eating, missing teeth starkly make their absence known. As a modern solution, Dr. Rhonda Kalasho offers dental implants in Beverly Hills that are designed to last decades.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants offer a way to replace missing teeth with a sturdy, natural-looking artificial tooth. They involve three key parts. The implant itself is a titanium post placed into the gum. The abutment affixes to the post and provides an anchor point for the crown. The crown is the “tooth” part, an artificial tooth made to custom specifications in our partnered lab. In short, dental implants fill in gaps in your smile.

Alternative Use: Implant-Support Dentures

Patients missing enough teeth to require dentures may qualify for implant-supported dentures. This involves placing implant posts into the gums. Instead of supporting a crown, they will serve as places to affix specially made dentures.

Dental Implants FAQs

What is the process like?
  • Consultation: First, we want to make sure you and dental implants are a good fit. Additionally, Dr. Kalasho will take X-rays to ensure you have a healthy jawbone mass. Based on your discussion, you can decide on implants or a different tooth replacement option.
  • Bone Grafting: If your jawbone needs to be bolstered, you can have a bone grafting procedure. This involves surgically placing grafting material into the gum so the bone can remodel itself. Once enough mass builds, you can have your implants. Most patients may skip this step.
  • Placing the Implant: Dr. Kalasho will surgically insert the implant post into the gum. As your body heals, the bone will naturally fuse to the post, creating incredibly stable support.
  • Impressions: We take impressions of your teeth to ensure your replacement tooth looks and feels natural. Our lab uses these impressions to custom-make every dental crown.
  • Placing Your Crown: For your last visit, we place the crown (the tooth part) on the implant. We check to ensure it looks right and fits properly. By the end of your appointment, you can go out with a restored smile.

Dental implants stand as the longest-lasting option for tooth replacement. However, they might not prove the ideal solution for each patient with missing teeth. Dr. Kalasho meets with each patient individually to assess their situation. Based on your goals, oral health, and needs, she can match you with the right path forward to rebuild your smile.

Some signs that dental implants are right for you include:

  • Being prepared for a longer process with a few steps
  • Wanting a long-lasting solution
  • Missing fewer teeth (unless for implant-supported dentures)
  • Having sufficient jaw bone mass
  • Having no current gum infections
  • Dental Bridges: Best for replacing several teeth in a row. Requires fewer visits. However, these do not provide the same stability as dental implants.
  • Dentures: Best for replacing larger numbers of teeth (or all of them). You can easily remove these for convenient care and cleaning.

A well-cared-for dental implant could last for 25 years to a lifetime. The lab we work with uses premium materials designed for durability. So, our patients can count on having teeth replacements built to last and resist wear.

However, patients will still need to take care of their teeth at home. The good news is that good dental implant care looks exactly like good oral hygiene for the rest of your mouth. Set the foundation with brushing and flossing, and build on it with routine dental visits every 6 months.

Dental implants can occasionally be partially covered by insurance. However, they would need to count as a medically necessary procedure. We recommend calling your providers to learn about what your coverage entails.

At TruGlo, we offer patients a membership plan that includes discounted prices for key treatments, including implants. Call our office to learn more about these plans and their benefits.
