Oral health requires attentive care every day of the year. At- home hygiene plays a core role, but professional teeth cleanings are also vital. At TruGlo Modern Dental in Beverly Hills, we provide dental cleanings in a state-of-the-art facility where patients feel comfortable, welcome, and at ease with every visit.
What Does Professional Teeth Cleaning Entail?
The foundation of dental health is twice daily brushing and at least once daily flossing. These are the first line of defense against tooth decay and gum disease. However, even the most rigorous at-home care can miss some areas. Professional teeth cleaning removes plaque and tartar and stops decay in its tracks.
The treatment involves a qualified hygienist carefully cleaning each tooth using specialized tools. By the time you leave the office, your mouth should feel refreshed and free of buildup.

Teeth Cleaning FAQs
What is the process like?
- Consultation + Exam: Firstly, a teeth cleaning starts with ensuring you are comfortable. Dental care should be an empowering experience, not one that induces anxiety. Our friendly team will check your mouth for cavities and may take X-rays to evaluate your dental situation. If you have dental anxiety, we can discuss sedation options.
- Removing Buildup: The cleaning starts by removing any buildup with a special dental tool. You may hear some scraping (if there is buildup) and may feel some pressure. However, you should have no pain.
- Ultrasonic Cleaning: An ultrasonic cleaner uses rapid vibration and water to further break up buildup and clean your teeth.
- Polishing: We then apply a special gritty toothpaste to your teeth to go a step further and really get them clean. Most patients find this the most pleasant part of the treatment. It may feel like a massage for your teeth and gums.
- Fluoride Treatment: Lastly, we apply a fluoride treatment and let it sit on the teeth for a bit. This treatment will provide additional protection against cavities in the weeks after your cleaning.
When do I need a dental cleaning?
Most patients will need about two cleanings per year (or one every six months). However, the number of treatments will depend on your overall oral health. Some patients with exceptional oral health may need only a single yearly cleaning. Others may need three or four cleanings per year. For example, patients with gum disease will need more frequent cleanings to stop the disease’s progress.
Will I get fillings during a cleaning?
Patients may get dental fillings on the same day as a cleaning when needed. However, most patients prefer to schedule cleanings and other appointments separately to avoid spending too much time in the office. We build each treatment plan according to our patients’ needs.
Does teeth cleaning whiten your teeth?
While dental cleanings are different from whitening treatments, they can still improve the appearance of your teeth. The cleaning does not target stains. However, by removing buildup, your teeth can look healthier and clean. If you have stains, we recommend trying a cosmetic treatment like whitening, veneers, or dental bonding.
Does insurance cover this treatment?
Virtually all dental insurance plans cover at least a portion of a teeth cleaning treatment. These treatments form the basis of oral health, and many plans will almost entirely reimburse patients for them. However, we recommend taking a moment to check your plan’s coverage so you can know what your out-of- pocket costs will be.
We also offer patients TruGlo Membership plans. Each of our plan options includes two free dental cleanings per year. This alone nearly pays for itself, but the plans also include discounts on other dental treatments, including cosmetic options. Call our office to learn more about TruGlo Membership benefits.
